Fera at Claridge’s

Dining At Fera:

Claridges 20

My wife and I recently visited one of London’s finest hotel restaurants using the Bookatable website.

The £39-00 per person Sample Menu included 3 courses and a glass of Champagne.

Fera is a Michelin-starred restaurant set within Mayfair’s famous Claridge’s Hotel. Fera’s website gives you an insight into the fine dining experience ahead, ‘ Renowned chef Simon Rogan’s ever-changing à la carte and tasting menus capture the true essence of nature through its textures, tastes and sense of perpetual evolution.’

As you pass through the revolving doors at the main entrance you are at once struck by the superb art deco interior of one of London’s most celebrated hotels. After entering the restaurant through a curtain (for theatrical effect) via a dimly lit corridor, we were escorted to our table. Although Fera’s interior has been modernised in recent times it retains it’s art deco heritage. The restaurant was only half full for our late lunch booking and this may have worked in our favour as there seemed to be an abundance of staff on hand.

Fera’s Sample Menu

The Sample menu had a choice of two starters, three main courses and two desserts.

Typical Menu

My wife and I both opted for house wine instead of Champagne, Gurnard for starters and Pork Belly for mains.

Our first surprise was tasty canapes presented to our table on a wooden log, in keeping with the back to nature theme. The friendly and informative waiting staff not only present you with your food, they also then give you a full description of the cuisine you are poised to sample.

The Ash Onion canapes were wafer light and delicious. Next up was Gurnard ( fish ) starter, garnished with Radish it was more to my liking than my wife’s. As always with fine dining the emphasis was on quality rather than quantity so the bread supplied was very welcome.

Both of us opted for the Pork Belly with roasted Onion, Cabbage, Whey sauce and Black Garlic for our main meals. We were both happy with our choice this time. Tender and full of flavour, it was perfect.

Although a dessert was included in the Sample Menu we both opted not to take it and pay an extra £8-00 each for a selection of English Cheeses ( advised to eat them right to left when presented ), served with assorted breads and chutney.

Be aware that your bill can soon escalate when buying extra drinks:

As an example, an additional glass of red wine for me ( Tommy Ruff, Shiraz ) was £ 17-00.

An Enjoyable Experience

Our overall experience was a positive one. Fera is an enjoyable place to visit and the Bookatable Sample Menu can be an affordable way to enjoy fine dining in one of London’s top venues.
